Autumn presents a golden opportunity to add leaf litter to your indoor worm bin. This will help balance the Carbon to Nitrogen Ratio (C:N) and give the bin a microbial boost. Dried leaves have much more Carbon that the kitchen scrap food the worms eat, which is primarily Nitrogen. Hence the need for Carbon rich bedding material like newspaper. Most bins have a healthy “good” bacteria count but due to the competitive nature of struggle for life in a closed system, some types will eventually over-run weaker species. A microbial boost from leaf litter and the decomposers that come with it will enrich the composting action of your bin.
