snowmageddonBelive it or not….. the days are getting longer, mid February marks the halfway point through an average Canadian winter here on the prairies. It’s all downhill now.  We can expect a slow warming of our days and the decline of the huge snow banks surrounding our homes and outlining our roads.  It’s one of the funnest times of the year.  Snow is a great venue for play.  Here in Winnipeg, you can skate down the miles of river trail without the fear of “exposed skin freezing in less than three minutes”.  For our warm climate friends, this term refers to what’s called a windchill factor.  A combination of very cold temperatures with strong wind.  Some days your skin will literally freeze, it’s like the opposite of a sun burn.  Lately however you can feel a little less chill in the air.  We can start thinking about our spring gardening plans.  If this sounds premature, well it may be slightly optimistic, but according to our First Nation’s cultivating pro Audrey… we can start some seeds.  We’ll keep you posted on how that works out next time.
